U.S. State Population Pyramids
Population pyramids show the age and sex distribution for all 50 states and D.C. Each pyramid is a horizontal bar chart with males on the left and females on the right, organized by 5-year age cohorts. Data are from the U.S. Census Bureau’s 2024 American Community Survey (ACS) 5-Year Estimates (covering 2020–2024), table B01001. Click any state on the map to see its pyramid.
Data Sources
U.S. Census Bureau — American Community Survey (ACS) 5-Year Estimates, 2023. Table B01001: Sex by Age. All 51 geographies (50 states + District of Columbia). Data retrieved live via the Census Data API (api.census.gov). ACS 5-year estimates represent average characteristics over the 2019–2023 period and are the most reliable sub-national demographic estimates available between decennial censuses.
Population figures are reported in thousands. Age bands conform to standard 5-year cohorts (0–4, 5–9, … 80–84, 85+) by summing the ACS B01001 irregular sub-groups (e.g., ages 20, 21, and 22–24 are combined into the 20–24 cohort).
